Why Prime your panels?
28 July 2023
We all know the reasons we need to prime a panel or a door before painting it, the priming provides the perfect base for the topcoat to stick to, but other than the fundamental reason for priming, our service adds a few other benefits too.
One added benefit of priming your work before assembly is that after installation, you can leave your customer with a piece of furniture which appears finished to a professional standard. No more patchwork MDF tones or unsightly filler! Okay, so the topcoat has yet to be applied so its not finished yet, but at least the colour is uniform which really makes things look higher quality, perfect when you want your woodwork to be signed off by your customer.
Another added benefit is the added value to your project. As a woodworker you may well hand your project over to a 3rd party decorator once you’ve finished building it, and at this point, you may well lose the ability to add a financial margin to their work. By including priming on your panel or door order, you can add your markup on the cost of the priming and keep a slightly larger slice of the pie.
Maybe you’re painting your work after installation, if so, using our primed panels and doors gives your project a boost towards the finish line, saving time onsite while providing excellent quality coverage from which to finish onsite.
Now we’ve got some great reasons to use the Cutlist priming service, lets have a look at what options you have.
White or Grey Primer
We know our panels are used for some amazing work by some very skilled people. People who care about the details of a project. One of those details might be the colour of the primer. Its good practice to use a base coat which is a complimentary tone to the topcoat, this allows the colour of the topcoat to be a true to itself as it can be. For these reasons, we offer priming in white or grey. White is used for lighter topcoats and grey is used where a darker topcoat will be applied.
Consistent priming without the waste
Noone likes waste so we’ve made is easy to choose whether you would like your panels to be primed on one side or both sides, Afterall, there is little point in priming a side that will be hidden from view forever more. Our priming applied after panels are cut so we only prime parts which are used, no more throwing primed offcuts away.
Going green
We’re pushing forward in our drive to be a greener business and now you can too. We only use environmentally responsible, water-based primers in our spray department. In an industry which still uses a great deal of solvents, we’re proud to be an early-adopter in the use of water-based primers.
